Many of the stories in 🌺 WHEN THE HIBISCUS FALLS 🌺 are influenced by my upbringing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up in Brookfield often meant there weren’t any other Filipinos nearby, but if we gathered families from Greendale, and other suburbs of Milwaukee, we could number over a hundred persons at picnics, parties and cultural events. Singer and writer Joy Bach was one of my little sisters in that community. I am excited to share a conversation with her around the stories of this collection very closely tied to our community.
